Daffodil Glade
Today after church, we went as a family to the Arboretum to see the daffodils in bloom. We had a wonderful time being out in God's glory, exercising and of course, taking pictures!

The Language of the Fan
I found this on a website and thought it was soooo neat...fan lessons anyone? I want to learn!
In the past, hand fans were used not only as cooling instruments, but also as convenient communication devices, mainly for transmitting more or less furtive love messages.A language of the fan, which is today completely forgotten, was widely used. For your amusement we have recovered a set of messages pertaining to this language, which we include here:
The lady shows up briefly at the balcony, slowly fanning herself, and returns inside, shutting the balcony:"I can't go out"
If she appears briefly at the balcony, excitedly fanning herself, and quickly goes inside, leaving the balcony open: "I'll go out soon"
Resting the fan on her lips:"I don't trust you"
Fanning herself with her left hand:"Don't flirt with that woman"
Running her fingers through the fan's ribs:"I want to talk to you"
Slowly fanning herself :"Don't waste your time, I don't care about you"
Quickly fanning herself :"I love you so much"
Moving her hair away from her forehead."Don't forget me"
Passing the fan from hand to hand:"I see that you are looking at another woman"
Hitting her hand's palm:"Love me"
Carrying the fan closed and hanging from her left hand:"I'm engaged"
Carrying the fan closed and hanging from her right hand:"I want to be engaged"
Quickly and impetuously closing the fan:"I'm jealous"
Dropping the fan:"I belong to you"
Resting the fan on her heart:"My love for you is breaking my heart"
Half-opening the fan over her face:"We are being watched over"
Hitting any object:"I'm impatient"
Hiding the sunlight:"You're ugly"
Looking closely at the painting [on the fan]:"I like you"

As a family we were listening to a John Piper sermon titled “Lavish Giving, Loving Guests, Living Christ.”[1] The summery of the whole sermon was this:
“Are you living so that people are sad when you leave and happy when you come? Have you made a positive impact on the people in your life? Do you make a difference in the lives of your neighbors, your friends and relatives?”
Of course, God wants us to be thankful. He may even be more desirous to see those we encounter flow with thankfulness that we entered their lives.
How are we living our lives every day, lavishly giving and loving guests? Do we avoid inviting people to our home because we’re afraid they’ll stay too long or because we don’t want them to judge our messy house? (of course this is never true, right?!?!) Even in our busy lives we need to take time doing the important things of life whether that be at school, work, or home.
Interestingly, Piper defined adoption as the logical extension of hospitality. When we host people for lunch, for a meal or for a time, we can do it with the attitude of adopting them into our family. Is this how we show hospitality?
We need to let down our pride and ask why it is that we don’t involve people in our lives, delve into theirs, and enjoy life together. Whether you eat lunch with a new person from Bible study, visit with a neighbor, talk to a widow on the phone for an hour, give a friend a ride, take time to talk to someone for just that five minutes when you see them in the store, to learn something new about them and to show them you truly care about this person and his/her life. How can we live as Christ lived, changing people’s lives one day at a time?
Will people be glad that you lived?

Northern Sparrowhawk
We seem to have attracted a Northern Sparrowhawk to our neighborhood with our lovely bird feeders that are so well populated...! The first couple of times we just caught glimpses but a little while ago it made a lovely imprint on our window and this round we were able to get pictures...I am afraid we are now known as a dive-in restaurant!
As much as I love hawks, I still like the other birds and hope they don't leave!Miss Katy

The Pink Gown
My very dear friend EmmaLynne inspires me very much. When she sent me pictures of a pink gown she was wearing in CW one day...I felt so inspired that I made one too...
This is EmmaLynne in her gown
And this is my gown before it was trimmed...
And you can kind of see the trimming a little bit...and of course I had to make a hat too...more on that later :)
